If you want your Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) training sessions to be enjoyable, then you should not compromise on your Jiu Jitsu gear selection. Many people usually assume that they can substitute this gear with any other so long as they look alike, but this is not professional. The gears differ in styles, so such a move is unwelcome. Proper gear makes your practice session easy in many aspects, including but not limited to hand placements, submission techniques of defense, grappling and making of grips.

Categorizing the Gear According to the Weaves of the Fabric Having motioned that, it is therefore important to also know how to shop for the right gear. There are different ways of categorizing the gear. The most common one is perhaps based on the weave of the cloth used for making the gear. The weave has a direct impact on the gear's durability, and more so the jacket however, durability of the jacket normally comes with durability of the pants as well.

Under weave classification, there are the single weave gears, the double weave gears, the gold weave gears and other customized weave gears. Normally, you will find appropriate labeling on the gear. The single weaves are normally recommended for BJJ beginners. This is due to their light nature and the fact that they cost less. The double weaves aren't that light in weight. As such, you have to buy ones that are fitting in order for them to be comfortable when training.

The gold weaves are usually made by mixing both the two primary weaves, and that is single and double weaves. The combination has a double advantage of increasing the gold weaves strength as well as making it light enough for practice. As such, many people who purchase them do so for BJJ competition purposes.

Generally, any gear that does not fall under the above categories will normally be categorized as 'others.' Most of them are known for their ultra light weight nature.

Purchasing Based on the Size of the Gear Numerous sizes exist for the BJJ gears. These sizes vary from one manufacturer to another. Generally, the letter 'A' denotes men's adult sizes, and these can range from A0 to A6. Letter 'F' stands for ladies' sizes. For kids' sizes, the writing is always on the wall. The importance of buying the right size is mainly to avoid the cumbersome job of sizing up these gears.

Gear Collar Consideration Another important consideration when shopping for these gears is the collar. Base your selection on two aspects of the collar, and that is thickness and toughness. Each extreme has its own advantages and disadvantages, with the less stiff options being comfortable but with little advantage over your opponent's attack and chocking.

A lot of the collars comprise mainly of cotton. However, a few have rubber material inside.

Buying According to the Color of the Gear There are two major options with this, and that is the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gears traditional colors or the modern color trends that many manufacturers have come up with. However, remember that for many competitions, you will be required to participate in gear with traditional colors, which are white and blue. This therefore calls for consultations with one's instructor before choosing any other colors to buy.
