Prior to Luchan's demonstration, the martial art style had no name as it was only practiced by a few individuals. It was commonly referred to as Soft Boxing, Touch Boxing or The Thirteen techniques. The concept of Tai Chi appears in not only readings from Confucius philosophy but also Taoist as well.

This method of movement, if repeated regularly, allows for leverage and coordination to increase through practice. When it comes to Tai Chi training there are two main methods. The first one involves using the slow movement technique. The second form of training involves a variety of pushing hand styles. Regarding the solo form of Tai Chi, those who practice it are taken through a full range of motion.

Although most that are familiar with Tai Chi stereotypes I'll explain it further here. It as using very slow movement, there is actually a variety of Tai Chi styles which have additional forms that move at a much quicker pace. Also, many schools which teach Tai Chi instruct on a variety of partner exercises referred to as "pushing hands."

These days, Tai Chi has become popular all over the country. Classes can now be found almost anywhere, from outpatient clinics to the local community center to hospital and in some cases, even retirement communities as well. Many seniors find Tai Chi to be a great tool when it comes to relieving stress.

An even more amazing fact about Tai Chi is it has become widely referenced in popular culture. The style has been featured in a number of movies, including one of popular film director Ang Lee's first movies. Also, for those who grew up with video games, Tai Chi has become a staple style of fighting in a wide variety of action and martial arts games. Additionally, many Chinese television shows have referenced Tai Chi and used it as a focal point in many of their episodes.
