Kuo-shu,Wushu,Tao-fa are among the many names used to describe kungfu it is also believed to have predated because of this it not widely known when it originated but it is believed to be oneof the oldest if not the oldest formn of martial arts.

Kungfu is what most people think is being executed when they witness the art form in action as opposed to a specific style of the art form contrary to popular belief kungfu is not just one specific style but a combination of hundreds of fighting styles this how kungfu can be defined, it is centerd around several different fighting styles to form the or create the art of kungfu.

So Kung Fu is not the description of one style of fighting but many forms of fighting, it is a collective of many forms of fighting styles all based around different observations but all the styles incorporate the same basic Kung Fu fighting principles which are seizing and locking, striking, kicking, throwing and grappling, are the four primary areas or categories of Kung Fu almost every form of kung fu is based around these techniques

The study of martial arts in this respect is no different from other studies in that is crucial to understand the history of these practices to effectively apply and implement them if you take away the history of martial arts or any other art form then what are you learning? Proper application of what is being taught is essential to mastering that particular art form what ever it may be.

A collection of many forms of fighting is how kungfu can be defined most or all are centered around observations of animals fighting in the wild the styles were then refined and perfected to produce the kungfu fighting styles and principles but regardless of the particular kungfu fighting technique they are all centered around the same kungfu fighting principles which include kicking, striking, throwing, grappling, and in many cases locking.
